"Shiphrah and Puah"24" x 18"Acrylic on Canvas This piece was painted live on November 2, 2021 at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC during the Tuesday Chapel. As Wesley's Associate Professor of Preaching, The Rev. Veronice Miles, Ph.D., continued the Exodus series on "Leading in Liminal Times,"  she preached, "The Salvific Efficacy of Midwifery," a reflection on the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah. This painting reflectson what is possible when we say yes to God's call and no to unfair rules made by man. Shiphrah and Puah were brave and smart and I'm sure at times nervous. But they did what they knew was right and prevented the death of the Israelite male newborns. The pattern in the background represents the many lives and families that were saved and blessed because of their courage to defy Pharaoh's command and do what they knew was right. What is God waiting for you to say yes to? Whose life is going to be saved because of your yes to God?
